About this site

Chaotic-Good Engineering Management is an independent publication launched in August 2025 by Jason Diller. It's free! You can subscribe via email or, if you still use a newsreader, RSS.

This publication is a place to put my thoughts on the practice of engineering management in the context of growing organizations and trying to stay sane, efficient, and effective while doing so.

If you're leading a team building software products, I hope you'll find some of the writing here useful, entertaining, educational, or, dare I say, inspiring?

I'll try to mix my opinions and experience with stories from the 'trenches' and some of the lessons from the many mistakes and successes I've claimed in my career.

You can read more about why I called the site "Chaotic Good Engineering Management" and learn a bit more about my philosophy in the very first post I put up here.

Who is Jason Diller?

It's me! I started programming in the 80s as a child and started doing it for a living in the late 90s. Working mostly in B2B startups, I switched over to the management track in 2010 and have been part of growing product development software engineering teams from very small to very large, from Series A through IPO and beyond. See my LinkedIn page for the specifics.
